“There are new Facebook features??” I know, I know, YES! Facebook added some new features that business owners should be aware of. They’re all about promoting posts, sharing responsibilities and managing time.

1) Facebook has begun to introduce Promoted Posts for brand page. This will let users pay for more exposure in newsfeeds of their fans/followers. The new PROMOTE button will show up right next to the POST button in the status update box and offers businesses more exposure. For a price ($5 and up).

2) Facebook has added 5 new roles for Page administrators to help multiple administrators handle their roles separately and differently. The five administrator gives specific functions to these admins and they are all controlled by the Manager.
Here are the 5 levels:

Insights analyst: Views insights
Advertiser: Views insights and create ads.
Moderator: Views insights, create ads, send messages as the “page”, and can respond to and delete comments.
Content creator: All of the above and in addition can create posts as the page, edit the page, and add apps.
Manager: All content creator abilities, plus the ability to manage admin roles.

3) Post Scheduling! This new feature will let page administrators schedule posts up to six months in advance. There are other platforms like Social Oomph, Hootsuite and others that offer this feature, however users will now be able to use an on-site tool directly on Facebook.

I would love to hear your feedback on these changes. Please give me your thoughts below! Let’s discuss.

The concept of having to pay to promote my posts is annoying at best and totally changes the playing field for small business. I am fine with the other changes, but this one is maddening and may be a game changer for me with regard to where I focus my marketing efforts.

I can understand how you feel Claudia. When you think about it, even if you promote your post, that doesn’t necessarily guarantee engagement. It’s kind of disappointing.

Admittedly, I will probably never use the Promoted Posts feature. I know Facebook has to make money now since they are public, and this is one way for them to do it.
